Respite Care enables carers to have a break from the requirements of full time caring roles. Many facilities are able to offer bookings for short, long and regular periods.
This service enables consistency of care in a familiar environment with familiar staff. It minimises the disruptive impact of short or long term placement in inconsistent locations. It also supports the carer, enabling the client to continue living in the environment of their choice with effective processes in place, like Ageing in Place.
Sometimes there may be quite complex respite care needs for the client. An insightful interview process enables careful planning to commence prior to admission. The relevant GP is involved in planning regular medical treatment, and pre-admission packs are issued to enable a comprehensive collation of the information identifying health needs and psychosocial preferences. This also helps the client accept a term of residential care as they feel that all their needs are carefully planned and catered for and made according to their wishes.
Strong networking links are maintained with other home care services, community groups and carer respite centres, hospital discharge planners social workers and ACATs to ensure flexible and compassionate admission strategies are auctioned and responsiveness maintain for emergency needs. This minimisies the risk, that should a carer fall acutely ill, the client is not admitted inappropriately to a hospital, where he or she would be in unfamiliar surroundings.
