Our visitation requirements

Everything you need to know about visiting our residential aged care homes

At Southern Cross Care, we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for everyone in our community. If you’re planning to visit a loved one in our homes, please take a moment to read our visitation guidelines. These help ensure our homes remain places of care, connection, dignity, and respect for all.

 

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) Precautions

We continue to take a careful approach to safeguarding our community against Acute Respiratory Infections, including COVID-19, influenza, and RSV.

  • No routine RAT testing is required, but may be reinstated during an outbreak or high-risk period.
  • Stay home if you’re unwell, have tested positive to COVID-19 in the past 7 days, or have been in close contact with a positive case.
  • Temperature checks and screening questions remain in place.
  • RAT testing will be required if individuals are showing signs and symptoms of a respiratory illness.

Additional safety measures

  • We recommend that all visitors stay up to date with vaccinations and boosters.
  • Practise good hygiene, including handwashing and sanitising.
  • Where possible, gather outdoors or in well-ventilated areas.
  • Report any symptoms you observe to staff immediately.
  • Follow outbreak management directions, including mask use if required.

Respectful Behaviour Policy

We are committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and emotionally secure environment for everyone. To ensure that all visits contribute positively to the wellbeing of our community, we’ve introduced the Visitor Respectful Behaviour Policy, which outlines the standards of behaviour we expect from all visitors to our services.

  • Communicate respectfully with residents, staff, and other visitors.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols.
  • Respect residents’ rights and preferences, including their choice to accept or decline visits.
  • Raise concerns calmly through the appropriate channels.

Aggressive, abusive, or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated and may lead to restrictions on visitation or referral to authorities if required.
