Southern Cross Care Queensland is pleased to present its 2018-19 Annual Report, a year in which we have been presented with many challenges and celebrated a number of significant milestones.

The aged care industry is undergoing the most radical transformation in Australia’s history, and the Board and Executive team have continued to prepare for this change, and the associated opportunities that will arise. Southern Cross Care Queensland continues to honour the motivation and drive that lay behind the Knights of the Southern Cross to bear witness to the love of God through love and solidarity for those in need.

This year, Southern Cross Care Queensland has followed the hearings of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. We are listening to our residents, their families and industry bodies with a view to continually improving our clinical and corporate governance to meet expectations and regulatory requirements.

Southern Cross Care Queensland participated in the Queensland Government’s Parliamentary Inquiry into Aged Care, End-of-Life and Palliative Care and Voluntary Assisted Dying and submitted that high-quality aged care, palliative care and end of life care are the best options to allow comfort, dignity and respect as a person nears the end of life.

We have reported strong financial results once again this year, which means we are becoming a stronger, well-governed organisation that is readily capable of handling the needs of our residents and clients, and to meet challenges as they arise.

We celebrated our 40th anniversary of the Blessing and opening of Southern Cross Care Queensland’s first aged care facility at Holland Park, as well as 15 years of operation at Caloundra and 10 years at Stretton Gardens. In these celebrations, the vibrancy and connection of our communities was clearly evident.

Our future looks bright as we move toward the opening of two brand new developments – ParqueVista on Seville Building Two, due to open on November 28, and Stretton Gardens stages 4 and 5, which are due to be opened in early 2020. These developments offer modern independent living units in beautiful surroundings with amenities close by.

Our people remain our most important asset – the compassion and dedication displayed each and every day in the care of our residents and clients is the backbone of the organisation and the inspiration for our leaders. Southern Cross Care Queensland is grateful for the teams who put our residents and clients first every day.

In our 40th year of operations, our mission enables us to continue the important work of supporting the aged and vulnerable in the communities in which we operate.
