The cost of Residential Aged Care is means-tested and will vary from person to person. When you go through the Australian Government assessment process, this will determine how much you will need to pay for care and accommodation, and how much subsidy you are eligible for.
There are 3 main areas included in the costs of Residential Aged Care:
Think of this as your daily living costs. It covers catered meals daily, laundry services, power costs for heating, cooling, etc and cleaning costs.
This fee is set by the Government and is already covered by up to 85% of the Australian Single Age Pension.
These services are in addition to those that are required to be provided under the Aged Care Act, and attract an extra fee.
The additional services provided by SCCQ are included in our fee schedule for each home and include items such as new pillows, buffet style meals, WiFi Internet, and special social events.
This is the cost of accommodation in an aged care community. Think of this like mortgage or rent. There are different ways that you can pay for your accommodation, including as a lump sum or as a daily fee, or a combination of both. If you choose to pay this as a lump sum, it is 100% refundable upon exit.
The amount you will be asked to pay towards this cost will be based on your Combined Income and Assets Assessment, undertaken through Services Australia or Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA). This result will also determine if you will be charged a means tested care fee which contributes to cost of care. This assessment will determine which category of payment you fall into; supported, partially supported or self-funded.
