Why choose Southern Cross Care for your student placement?

At Southern Cross Care, we’re more than a care provider – we’re a community. Through our “Known & Loved” program, we aim to create a welcoming environment for both residents and staff, where every person is valued. As a student in our placement program, you’ll be a part of this commitment, helping to foster a culture of respect, compassion, and dedication to serving the greater good.

Why Hands-On Experience in Aged Care Matters

Engaging directly with residents and working alongside our clinical team offers an unparalleled opportunity to build your skills, compassion, and confidence. This experience prepares you to make a meaningful impact and contributes to your future career in healthcare.

Program Benefits

Learn from Experienced Clinical Staff: Our clinical team offers guidance and support throughout your placement, ensuring you gain the skills needed to thrive in the aged care sector.

Skill Development: Learn essential care practices, enhance your communication skills, and develop empathy as you interact with residents and staff.

Career Pathways: Placement with Southern Cross Care can be a stepping stone to future employment opportunities, as we actively seek new talent who share our values and commitment to compassionate care.

Application Process

Application Through Partnered RTOs: If you’re applying through a partnered RTO, we’ll confirm your placement with the RTO and proceed with your application.

Non-Partnered RTOs : Students from non-partnered RTOs may still apply, and applications will be reviewed based on site availability.

Documentation Requirements: Prior to the start of your placement, you’ll need to provide the following:

  • Up-to-date Flu Vaccination Certificate
  •  Police Check (valid and recent)

Orientation and Online Training: To ensure you’re well-prepared, all students are required to complete our Southern Cross Care Queensland (SCCQ) online training modules, covering our values, processes, and safety standards.

Hear from our community

I have been volunteering for 2 years and find it so rewarding – crafts, bingo, and sharing good times and happy memories with residents. It’s the highlight of my week.

Jen

Lifestyle Volunteer

I like going on outings with Julie because we have lots of fun and we have lots of laughs. I love getting out of my unit and having a coffee at Gloria Jeans where I also know the staff and say hello.

Helen

Home Care Client

You don’t have to worry about being cared for in a place like this. There are beautiful, beautiful people who really and truly love us and look after us – and that’s what it’s about. I consider this to be my family.
