Why volunteer with us?

When you volunteer with Southern Cross Care Queensland, you’ll be part of a team making a difference to the lives of older people every day.

You don’t need any prior experience to volunteer with us, we welcome volunteers with all skills and from all backgrounds. If you have a willingness to support and a desire to serve others, we could be just the right fit for you.

You’ll meet new people, learn new skills and be rewarded by enriching the lives of others.

What do our volunteers do?

Our volunteers share their skills, hobbies and passions and engage in roles and activities that interest them as well as those who entrust us with their care. We have a range of wonderful roles and opportunities, there’s sure to be a role that fits you.

Lifestyle Assistant Volunteer

Assist our Lifestyle Team with arts and craft, music and dance, carpet bowls, gentle exercise, bingo, gardening and fun theme days. Enjoy one-on-one activities with residents, such as reading, walks, coffee and chats, and assist them with activities that are meaningful and fulfilling for them.

Companionship Volunteer

Provide companionship and social support, such as one-on-one visits and finding and doing activities together that you both enjoy. Anything from board games, card games, books, music and movies. You may even help someone find, or rediscover, what brings joy and meaning to their life.

Pastoral Care Volunteer

Are you a great listener and a person of faith, who has the ability support others with their emotional or spiritual needs? As a Pastoral Care Volunteer, you can offer an invaluable service supporting our residents, their families and our staff.

Hear from our community

I have been volunteering for 2 years and find it so rewarding – crafts, bingo, and sharing good times and happy memories with residents. It’s the highlight of my week.

Jen

Lifestyle Volunteer

I like going on outings with Julie because we have lots of fun and we have lots of laughs. I love getting out of my unit and having a coffee at Gloria Jeans where I also know the staff and say hello.

Helen

Home Care Client

You don’t have to worry about being cared for in a place like this. There are beautiful, beautiful people who really and truly love us and look after us – and that’s what it’s about. I consider this to be my family.

Sylvia

Duhig Village Resident
