Government-funded support to live well at home

The Australian Government provides several funding programs to help older people live safely and independently at home for as long as possible.

Depending on your needs and level of support, you may be eligible for assistance under the new Support at Home program commencing 1 November 2025 or Commonwealth Home Support Programme.

Support at Home

Support at Home will provide Australian Government funding for eligible older people from 1 November 2025. People who need support to live independently at home are assessed and then approved for services including clinical care, independence supports and everyday living supports.

To access funding under Support at Home, you need to:

  • Be aged 65+ (or 50+ for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people)
  • Complete an aged care assessment through My Aged Care

What you need to pay depends on your services and in some cases, your financial situation.

Means-Tested Contributions

Some clients are required to contribute towards their Home Care services. This is called a means-tested care fee and is determined by the Australian Government based on your income and assets. You can estimate your contribution using the government’s online calculator: My Aged Care Fee Estimator.

While clinical care services like nursing and physiotherapy remain fully government-funded, participants are required to contribute to services that support independence and everyday living. Contribution rates vary depending on the service type and the individual’s financial circumstances.

 

Standard Participant Contribution Rates (Effective 1 November 2025):

Part Pensioner & Commonwealth Seniors Health Card 0% 5%–50% (income/assets) 17.5%–80% (income/assets)

Note: Contribution rates for Independence and Everyday Living services are determined by individual income and asset assessments.

How to get started

Before you start:

To receive services, you will need a government-approved Support at Home package. If you haven’t had an assessment yet, you can contact My Aged Care to request one, or our team can help guide you through the process.

Once you have your approved package, our friendly team will work with you to understand your needs and goals, create a personalised care plan, and connect you with the right services. We regularly review your plan to make sure your care continues to meet your needs.
