Within SCCQ’s home care team, the heart-warming bond between mothers and daughters enriches the care provided to clients. Two standout duos, Sylvia and Candice, and Tarina and Sade, showcase the powerful impact of family connections in their roles as support workers, both based in our Gold Coast region.
Sylvia, a dedicated support worker with SCCQ for 26 years, introduced her daughter Candice to the field of Aged Care nearly a decade ago. Sylvia describes her work as a rewarding blend of personal care and companionship. Candice, who thrives on providing high-quality support, echoes her mother’s sentiments, “We develop strong relationships with our clients, often seeing the same faces regularly.” Their shared commitment to care creates a nurturing environment for both clients and caregivers.
Meanwhile, Tarina and her daughter Sade are equally passionate about their roles. Tarina, with 15 years of experience as a Personal Carer, brings a bright, bubbly spirit to her work, ensuring clients feel valued and heard. “I love getting to know each client’s story,” she says. Sade, who joined Southern Cross Care Qld nearly three years ago, follows in her mother’s footsteps with a natural ability to connect. “I always admired my mum’s kindness,” Sade reflects, emphasising how their shared experiences foster deeper client relationships.
While they don’t work together directly, these mother-daughter pairs provide mutual support and encouragement to each other, and also appreciate the flexibility of their roles, which allows them to balance work and family life.
At Southern Cross Care Qld, the dedication of these mum-and-daughter duos showcases how family ties can enhance the caregiving experience, making a lasting impact on the lives of clients across the Gold Coast.
