SCCQ CEO Fundraisers for the Homeless

5 May 2021

More than 116,000 people will be homeless across Australia tonight. What is even scarier about it is that one in six people experiencing homelessness are over 55 years.

Our CEO, Jason Eldering, joins hundreds of businesses, government and community leaders sleeping out on one of the longest and coldest nights of the year, gaining a small glimpse into the daily reality for tens of thousands of Australians.

There is no single cause of homelessness. A shortage of affordable and available rental housing, domestic and family violence, poverty, unemployment, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, financial crisis, exiting state care and/ or prison, and economic and social exclusion are all factors that contribute to the current state of homelessness in Australia.

The CEOSleepoutAU is an annual event to raise money for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of finding themselves without a safe place to call home. Every dollar raised goes to Vinnies’ not-for-profit services, which include food, accommodation, education, counselling, employment and health programs.
