A message of thanks to mark Aged Care Employee Day on 7 August

3 August 2021

Saturday 7 August marks national Aged Care Employee Day acknowledging the care and support provided by more than 365,000 employees across the country who provide 24 / 7 care to over 1.3 million older people.

The day celebrates the incredible difference the unsung heroes of aged care make every day to improve the lives of our grandmothers and grandfathers, and great grandmothers and grandfathers too.

At Southern Cross Care Queensland (SCCQ), our 1000-strong team works across the state reaching into rural and remote regions – some providing direct support to our elderly in their own homes but also, in retirement living and residential care homes, others contributing behind the scenes. But all share the same vision – to grow communities where best lives are lived and every life matters.

Our dedicated people – nurses, allied health professionals, personal care assistants, drivers and volunteers, as well as professionals in cleaning and laundry, catering, maintenance, leisure and lifestyle, administration, management and more – quietly provide a vital service to the most frail and vulnerable members of our community.

SCCQ CEO, Jason Eldering is justifiably proud of our unsung heroes in aged care.

I am privileged to lead a team of 1000 dedicated aged care professionals at SCCQ and every day, I am inspired by the work they do,” Mr Eldering said.

We all know it’s been a really tough 18 months living under a COVID cloud yet every day, our people do whatever it takes to keep the whole SCCQ family safe in communities where best lives are lived – and every person matters”.

On behalf of the Board and Executive Leadership Team at SCCQ, I want to thank and acknowledge the tireless work of our team, and all people in aged care”.

“Whatever role you play – either in direct care or providing support behind the scenes- you really are serving the greater good. My genuine thanks to all our nurses, allied health professionals, personal care assistants, drivers and volunteers, as well as those who work in cleaning and laundry, catering, maintenance, leisure and lifestyle, administration, management and more”.

“You do us proud serving our most vulnerable with courage and compassion,” he said.
