There is a quiet strength that runs through the hallways of our residential aged care homes, carried by the hands and hearts of our dedicated nursing teams. On 12 May, we join the global community to celebrate International Nurses Day, a time to recognise the dedication and clinical expertise that our nurses bring to our residents every single day.
This year’s theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” highlights the vital role our nursing team plays in the future of aged care. It is a reminder that when we support our nurses with a safe and fair environment, we allow their expertise and leadership to truly shine. In a world where health systems face growing challenges, our nurses remain steadfast, caring for our communities with unwavering dedication.
To mark the occasion, we invited our residents to share their own messages of gratitude. These handwritten notes reflect the deep bond of trust that is built through years of dedicated service.
“I want to thank our nurses for their compassion, their knowledge, and for their application towards their duties,” shared Joan McCann from St Mary’s home. At St Anne’s, Garry Graham simply stated, “I want to thank our nurses for everything they do for us; we would be lost without you.”
Kay Rossiter from Stretton Gardens home added a sincere note: “Thank you for all being so wonderful, even cleaning up our mess with a smile. You are incredible.”
The residents from Oasis home gathered their thoughts into one beautiful message: “We want to thank our nurses for your dedicated care day and night, your kindness, comfort, patience, and your daily smiles and chats. You all deserve this day.”
Our nurses do more than follow a clinical plan; they offer a listening ear, a comforting smile, and a sense of security to those who call our homes their own. We would like to thank all our nurses for their skill, their patience, and the immense heart they bring to ensure our residents feel known and loved.
