We were delighted to celebrate a truly extraordinary milestone with our Sunshine Coast Home Care clients, Richard and Laurel Dumbrell, who marked their 75th wedding anniversary.
Their long and loving partnership has been the heart of a close-knit family. Over the years, Richard and Laurel have supported their two daughters with generosity and encouragement as they built fulfilling lives of their own.
Today, they are proud grandparents to two grandchildren and great-grandparents to little Willa, who brings them immense joy.
Richard has lived through many chapters of Australia’s history, witnessing periods of great change and national growth. His contribution to the country’s oil, gas and petroleum engineering industries spanned an impressive 52 years.
In 2009, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to the development of Australian energy exploration and the engineering profession.
Laurel’s journey is equally inspiring. A true believer in lifelong learning, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication as a mature-age student, which launched her a successful 25-year career in writing and publishing. She led adult writing groups first in Sutherland Shire and later with Sydney’s Adult Education Association (WEA), helping countless people discover creativity through storytelling. In 1988, Laurel was also recognised with a Bicentennial Medallion for her contributions to community education.
What truly defines Richard and Laurel is their unbreakable bond. They have built a life full of love, shared purpose and resilience. Their 75-year journey is a beautiful testament to the joy found in an enduring partnership and meaningful connections that enrich every stage of life.
