As part of our Brisbane South Home Care team, Nicola Lambert has spent more than two decades bringing compassion and comfort to the people she supports, recently celebrating 21 years with Southern Cross Care (SCC).
Nicola has been a steady, compassionate presence in the lives of countless clients and families, embodying the heart of what SCC stands for.
Nicola’s journey in aged care began long before she joined SCC. Inspired by caring for her grandmother, she discovered early on that she had “a soft spot to help people.” In 1998, Nicola and her parents managed an aged pensioner accommodation lodge at Victoria Point (east of Brisbane), where they supported 12 residents.
“They really all became like extended family,” Nicola recalls. “I loved sitting, listening, and chatting about the cool, and sometimes heartbreaking, stories of their lives.” That experience inspired her to complete a TAFE course in Community Aged Care, leading to her career with SCC in 2004.
Over the years, Nicola has seen many changes, but her passion for the role has never wavered. “I enjoy making a difference, whether it be helping with everyday tasks, being a listening ear, giving a hug when needed, or putting a smile on someone’s face,” she says.
For Nicola, the work is as much about connection as it is about care: “I love meeting people from different walks of life and different cultures, as I’ve found I can learn a lot from them.”
Balancing her role with raising two children, Nicola says she has always felt supported by SCC. “I have stayed so long because SCC understands the curve balls of life and accommodates the busyness of family life,” she explains.
As she looks ahead, Nicola remains committed: “I will continue enjoying my job and providing the best care for our many clients for years to come.”
