Residents at Parque Vista Retirement Village came together recently to celebrate the official opening of a beautifully refreshed community space, marking an exciting new chapter for village life.
The event showcased the newly upgraded Galton Green, a vibrant outdoor area designed with connection and community in mind. Featuring an enhanced kitchen, ample seating, and a welcoming layout for gatherings, the space also includes a striking new metal structure roof. Over time, young vine plants will grow across the structure, forming a natural canopy of green that will provide shade and a sense of tranquillity for residents to enjoy.
Adding to the sense of fun and connection, the space now features a brand-new bocce green, already proving to be a popular addition.
Almost 100 guests attended the early evening celebration, including residents, village staff, and members of Southern Cross Care Queensland’s Board, Executive and senior leadership teams. The atmosphere was lively and warm, with live jazz music, flowing champagne, wine and beer, and an array of delicious canapés enjoyed throughout the evening.
The celebration truly reflected the spirit of community, with residents and staff even taking part in a friendly game of bocce on the green.
Spaces like Galton Green play an important role in bringing people together and supporting everyday moments of connection. They reflect Southern Cross Care’s vision to grow communities where best lives are lived – places where residents can feel at home, stay active, and enjoy meaningful social connections with friends and neighbours.
Village Manager Antonio Peluso highlighted the importance of these shared spaces, noting their role in supporting connection, wellbeing and an active village lifestyle. “Community spaces are vitally important in creating a vibrant social dynamic amongst our residents and their families”, said Antonio.
“Residents have wanted to make much more use of Galton Green. Our new Arbour, new floor tiling, bocce lawn and the kitchen improvements allow just that. The gala opening really showed everyone just how exciting Galton Green is now, residents were talking about it for weeks”.
Residents also shared their appreciation for the new space and the opportunity to come together to celebrate at the opening event.
“Having so many residents there, combined with that perfect weather, made for such a happy and memorable atmosphere. Thank you again for your incredible generosity and for the makeover of our facilities. We can already tell these spaces are going to be the heart of many more happy memories for our community”, shared Bob and Claire Longland, Parque Vista residents.
Resident Judith Byrne also shared her sentiments, “The Green looked great and I am sure we will get lots of use from it. The event was most enjoyable, with great food, wine and entertainment as well as plenty of conversation”.
The redevelopment of Galton Green reflects a commitment to creating spaces that grow and evolve with the community. Already, the area has played host to meaningful moments, from festive celebrations to shared gatherings, and will continue to be shaped by the people who call Parque Vista home.
With its inviting design and vibrant atmosphere, Galton Green is set to become a cherished heart of the village, where connection, celebration and community can flourish for years to come.
