Preparing for Change: What the New Aged Care Act Means for Our Residents, Families and Team

From 1 July 2025, the new Aged Care Act will come into effect — a significant shift in how aged care is delivered across Australia. At Southern Cross Care Queensland (SCCQ), we welcome this change as an opportunity to further strengthen our commitment to safe, compassionate, and person-centred care.

The new Aged Care Act places the rights and wellbeing of older Australians at its core. It introduces a new regulatory framework that puts a sharper focus on transparency, accountability, and supporting older people to live meaningful lives — on their own terms. These principles strongly align with our mission to ensure every person is Known and Loved, and our vision to grow communities where best lives are lived.

In preparation, we are already reviewing and updating our internal systems, care practices, and team training programs to meet the new requirements. We are focused on:

  • Strengthening our governance and clinical oversight
  • Enhancing care planning and documentation to reflect individual goals and preferences
  • Ensuring our team is supported and equipped to deliver on the new rights-based approach to care

We know this is a significant change, and we’re committed to keeping our residents, families, and staff informed every step of the way.

To help you understand what’s changing and how we’re preparing, we’ve created a dedicated webpage with up-to-date information, FAQs, and resources. You can visit it here:

We look forward to working together to embrace these reforms and continue building a culture of respect, dignity, and excellence in aged care.
