SCCQ employees honoured in annual awards

25 November 2022

Our Southern Cross Care Chair’s Dinner was held on Thursday 24 November, where our leaders, staff and invited guests attended our SCCQ Employee Excellence Awards to celebrate our valued finalists, and deserving winners.

It was a wonderful celebration of the SCCQ staff members who have gone above and beyond, as nominated by their fellow team members, and are truly living and breathing our core values of Service, Courage and Compassion each day in their jobs.

Gurjot Dhillon, Clinical Care Manager from SCC Stretton Gardens, won the 2022 Leadership Excellence Award, and Ashok Tamang, Personal Carer from SCC Chinchilla took out the Employee Excellence Known & Loved Stars Award.

Gurjot, an employee of SCCQ for over 13 years, but a Clinical Care Manager for only 18 months, was nominated for her outstanding leadership skills, and for being great role model to her team.

Gurjot is known by her peers at SCC Stretton Gardens to go out of her way and support her staff with the courage to speak up for her team and residents. Humbled to receive the Leadership Award, Gurjot spoke about her time at SCCQ,

“When I came to Australia, my first job was at Southern Cross Care Queensland.I started off as a Personal Carer, and then became a Registered Nurse and then now a Clinical Care Manager. All my hard work has paid off” said Gurjot.

Ashok, who has served at SCCQ for the past year, was also nominated by his peers at SCC Chinchilla for being a great role model, a team player, and a reliable and positive team member, who always shows care and compassion and takes the extra time to make sure the residents feel cared for and listened to.

In his opening address, SCCQ Chair Francis Price highlighted the importance of “recognising our valuable staff who give so much service and energy to the work they do”.

Our CEO, Jason Eldering, also expressed his appreciation for the contribution made by each area of the business, and the courage shown by our staff on the ground during another tough year.

“I’m so grateful for the tireless efforts of our front-line workers coming to work every day in PPE throughout Covid, and giving your time and energy each day. You are a blessing to those people we serve” said Jason.
