Southern Cross Care celebrates 50 years of service in Broken Hill

8 November 2024

Southern Cross Care is proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone – 50 years of dedicated service to the Broken Hill community.

In our Spring Edition, we shared our exciting partnership with SCC Broken Hill, and at the end of last year, the town marked this incredible achievement, highlighting five decades of commitment to the region’s elderly population.

Established by the Knights of the Southern Cross in 1974, SCC Broken Hill has grown to include four residential aged care homes and three retirement living villages, serving both Broken Hill and Mildura, just over the border in Victoria.

The 50th Anniversary celebration was a heartwarming gathering of government representatives, community members, residents, volunteers, and both current and former employees, all coming together to commemorate this historic milestone.

SCC Broken Hill Chair, Eamonn Dare, expressed his pride in achieving an important milestone of dedicated service to the region’s elderly community. “Over these five decades, the Knights have been more than just providers; they’ve been advocates, friends, and companions to countless seniors. This commitment to creating safe, nurturing environments has enabled many to live their lives with dignity and purpose.”

In the past 12 months Southern Cross Care Queensland has worked closely with the Broken Hill team, providing essential support in areas including compliance and statutory obligations. Operating eight homes in regional locations ourselves means we’re well placed to understand the unique aged care requirements of remote communities. Looking ahead, our priority is to foster sustainable growth and uphold exceptional care standards for the Broken Hill community.
