On Thursday 25 November, leaders, staff and invited guests attended the annual Chair’s Dinner at Victoria Park function centre to celebrate the Employee Excellence Awards.
Trish Barry, Catering Manager from Southern Cross Care (SCC) Holland Park, won the 2021 Leadership Excellence Award and Kuldip Kaur, Personal Carer from SCC Caloundra took out the Employee Excellence Values in Practise (V.I.P) Award.
Trish was recognised for her tireless service of nearly 19 years and for being a beacon of true leadership, acknowledged by her peers as a mentor, teacher and friend who embodies the not-for-profit’s values of service, courage and compassion.
Kuldip, who has devoted almost 10 years of service, was nominated for being a super-organised team-player, always going the extra mile for the residents in her care and living and breathing organisational values.
In his opening address, Chair Francis Price highlighted the importance of celebrating the inspiring work of aged care workers whose reputation had been battered by the Aged Care Royal Commission two years ago.
“It focused on the small few in aged care who did the wrong thing and while it did expose examples of neglect for which there is no excuse, my view is the vast majority in aged care commit each day to provide excellent services across the country, people like you,” he said.
CEO Jason Eldering said, “The 1000 + people who work at Southern Cross Care Queensland across our 5 retirement villages, 11 residential aged care homes and our Community Home Care Services provide more than a million hours of compassionate care each year – so it’s important we pause and give thanks to them for their inspiring service.”
