Wellness Centre opens new doors to healthy ageing at Holland Park

21 January 2026

Southern Cross Care’s commitment to healthy ageing has taken an exciting step forward with the recent opening of our new Wellness Centre at Holland Park.

Located on the ground floor of Duhig Village, the centre is purpose-designed to help older adults build strength, confidence and connection through safe, supported movement.

Prior to the official Opening in October, residents from Parque Vista Retirement Village attended a special introductory event where national reablement expert Dr Tim Henwood presented on the importance of maintaining mobility and independence as we age. They were also among the first to tour the modern gym, fitted with state-of-the-art, easy-to-use equipment built specifically for older adults.

Since then, the Wellness Centre has now welcomed its first 64 members, who have eagerly embraced the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing.

Leading the day-to-day operations are Exercise Physiologists Hayley Darke and Umar Khan, who work closely with each member to complete an initial assessment and develop personalised exercise plans tailored to their needs and goals.

“We have been grateful and delighted by the feedback from residents who have attended so far. Many approached the Wellness Centre with some hesitation about traditional “gym culture,” but they have quickly discovered how personal, safe, and rewarding the space is”, shared Hayley.

“Over the past few months, we have also loved getting to know the beautiful community, supporting them in their physical wellbeing by developing individualised programs and delivering informative educational sessions that offer great social networking opportunities, all complemented by healthy refreshments.

“Umar and I are passionate about creating an environment that is supportive and encouraging, helping our clients feel empowered and confident in their own bodies. We are excited for everything 2026 will bring.”

The response from Parque Vista residents has been overwhelmingly positive, with many already reporting improved strength, mobility and social connection. As these first members progress through their programs, the plan is to gradually welcome more older people from the wider local community to experience the Wellness Centre’s benefits.

With promising early results and strong resident engagement, the Wellness Centre marks an exciting new chapter for Southern Cross Care’s expansion into allied health, and a model we hope to extend to some of our other communities in the future.
