We are closely monitoring Cyclone Alfred and taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our residents, clients, and staff.
We’re pleased to share that our operations have largely returned to normal following the impacts of ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred across South East Queensland. While there are still some minor property-related issues to address—such as water-related repairs, garden clean-up, and general maintenance—we are in good shape overall.
We continue to monitor river levels and potential flooding risks, particularly in the Western Downs, to ensure the ongoing safety of our staff and residents. At present, all homes have safe access for staff.
Thank you to our staff, residents, and families for your patience and resilience throughout this period.
Ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred continues to impact South East Queensland, with heavy rainfall and flooding across the region. While weather warnings remain in place, we are hopeful that conditions will improve in the coming days as rain bands begin to break up.
We are fortunate that our homes and communities have not sustained significant property damage. However, access to some locations remains limited due to flooding in neighbouring areas, which has affected staffing and some services. Despite these challenges, our teams are working tirelessly to ensure that residents and clients continue to receive the care and support they need.
Service updates:
As we look to the recovery phase in the coming days, we will be focussed on restoring full access to services and supporting clean-up efforts where needed.
Overnight, the rain and wind re-intensified throughout South East Queensland, but we are pleased to report that, so far, our communities have weathered the conditions well.
All of our Residential Aged Care homes and Retirement Villages are in good shape. Power is on at all sites, and there has been no significant damage. As expected, there is some water pooling in the Holland Park basement, but this is being managed. We did experience some minor electrical issues at Edens Residential Aged Care and Stretton Retirement Village, but these are being addressed with minimal disruption.
Although nearby streets—particularly around Edens Landing—have seen flooding, none of our properties are completely cut off. However, this may impact staff access in the coming days, and we will continue to monitor the situation. At this stage, all homes remain adequately staffed, and resident care is unaffected.
We also want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of our Retirement Village Resident Committees. These groups have truly stepped up, working together to clear pools, blow leaves, clear debris, and support their communities. It’s inspiring to see residents actively looking out for each other in these challenging conditions. Their teamwork, alongside the dedication of our staff, truly highlights the spirit of community we value so much.
Our Home Care teams are still able to access all essential service clients today, and we will continue to monitor their situation as the rain persists overnight.
We remain mindful of the ongoing rain and potential for further flooding. Rest assured, we are staying vigilant and prepared to respond to any new challenges as they arise. While we are taking extra care with flood-affected areas, the safety of our people is our utmost priority, and we will adjust our approach as required to ensure all remain safe.
We are incredibly proud of our staff, residents, and families for their resilience and teamwork. Thank you all for working together to look after one another.
We will continue to provide updates as needed.
Power has now been restored at Stretton Gardens.
Our communities have weathered Cyclone Alfred well so far, with high spirits across the board despite some disruptions.
At Stretton Gardens, power went out around 4am, but our team quickly activated the generator to keep the Residential Aged Care home fully operational. The Retirement Village remains without power for now, but we have been in contact with Energex, who have advised they will attempt to restore power later today. In the meantime, frozen meals and cool room supplies have been moved to the Residential Aged Care building, and Retirement Village residents are supporting each other while accessing Residential Aged Care amenities as needed.
At Edens Landing, a couple of trees have come down, but thankfully, there’s no property damage. Over at Holland Park, minor water pooling has been reported in the basement car park, but no major issues have arisen.
Caloundra and Noosa have remained largely unaffected so far but remain on standby, with rain expected to have an impact over the next 48 hours. Our Rural & Remote communities also remain on watch, as we expect weather conditions to impact them into early next week.
For our Home Care clients, we have been able to visit all essential service clients this morning. However, to ensure we reached everyone, some visits were shortened. We have also checked in with all Gold Coast clients, and they are all safe and well at this stage.
Unfortunately, a few of the rostered staff have been unable to get to work, but we have been able to cover all shifts so far with no effect on the care of our residents. The dedication and teamwork of our staff continue to shine in these challenging conditions.
The positive news is that Cyclone Alfred has been downgraded to a tropical low, but we remain vigilant, with heavy rain and possible flooding still a concern in the coming days.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. Thank you to our incredible staff and residents for their resilience and support.
Cyclone Alfred has continued to stay offshore, and conditions in South East Queensland have remained relatively stable throughout Friday, with the hardest-hit area being the Gold Coast. We are in continued communication with our Home Care clients on the Gold Coast, and all are doing well and comfortable with their current situation. Welfare checks will continue to be a priority.
Our Home Care team has successfully delivered all normal services today, and at this stage, we plan to continue providing essential services over the weekend. However, this will be monitored on an hourly basis as the weather unfolds.
All of our Retirement Village communities and Residential Aged Care Homes remain fully prepared and ready. Local teams are working to ensure the safety of our residents and clients, and provisions are in place to manage essential services.
Our disaster management team is meeting daily, and our teams are doing all they can to support and care for everyone.
While we expect conditions to worsen over the weekend, we are calm, well-prepared, and ready for any impacts. Stay connected, take care of yourselves and each other, and remain mindful of your safety as we navigate through this together.
With Cyclone Alfred stalling off the coast overnight, conditions in South East Queensland have remained relatively stable throughout Thursday morning, giving us valuable extra time for maintenance and planning. Our teams have taken full advantage of this, completing last-round checks on gutters, water tanks, and other preparations to ensure our homes and properties are as ready as they can be.
The teamwork among our communities has been nothing short of inspiring. Staff have come together beautifully to support one another. There has been strong cross-team collaboration, with all hands on deck to ensure we are well-prepared for any changes in the weather.
Our Home Care team has been proactive in bringing forward essential weekend services where possible, ensuring continued support for those who need it most. At this stage, we have not cancelled any essential services for Friday, but we will keep monitoring conditions and make decisions day by day. Welfare checks for residents are ongoing, and we are grateful for our team’s continued flexibility and dedication.
With some of our plans now shifting by a day, we truly appreciate everyone’s patience and willingness to adapt.
We will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
Our teams across Residential Aged Care, Retirement Villages, and Home Care have been working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, clients, and staff. We are fully prepared and remain calm and confident as we continue to monitor the situation.
